Globe light fixtures, upholstered banquettes, old framed photographs, hard-boiled eggs displayed on the bar… In this cushy corner of the Tombe-Issoire neighborhood, you’ll find one of the coolest old-school bistros in all of Paris. Run by Pierre-Christophe Hantz since 2002 – a lover of fine wines and African wax print shirts – this joyful bistro offers up cheeky plates made by Michelle Steiner: Lyonnaise salad, leeks in vinaigrette, cod brandade with a side salad, chili sin carne (red and white beans + lentils), veal blanquette and crème brûlée… For us, the day we went for lunch, we had an old-fashioned egg in aspic with home-smoked salmon; a nostalgic country terrine; flavorful braised beef and mashed potatoes; before a delightful damson plum and almond tart. And at night, you can even play belote with friends! // M.R.

FEELING THIRSTY? Winner of the Coupe du Meilleur Pot award in 2017, the owner tastes his wines before serving them: a Orléans-Cléry red from the Domaine du Chant des Oiseaux (€3.40 a glass), a Bourgogne-Chitry red from the Domaine Giraudon (€7.40 for a 250 ml pot), a Tours Sauvignon vieilles vignes from the Château de Quinçay (€20 a bottle)… Plus, there’s craft La Cadette lager on tap (€3.80 for a half-pint).
