It’s a family affair at Chez Gaston! After running a luxury catering service, this father and daughters team have now opened up a cute little bistro featuring lots of woodwork, serving what feels like Sunday lunch at grandpa’s house. The result? Striking ingredients and tasty cuisine, like the night we went: focaccia with San Daniele ham aged for 18 months (€9); a good caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella (€10); tender mountain pork and beef ragout covering pasta cooked al dente (€17); incredible Aubrac beef mi-cuit carpaccio (€18); before a very rich chocolate lava cake (€7), to conclude this transalpine trip. And don’t forget the sharp wine collection: Sainte-Cécile, a powerful Languedoc from the Château de l’Engarran (€6 a glass), a red Alsace from the Domaine Louis Spitz et Fils (€32 a bottle), a white Aveyron from the Domaine Laurens (€24). Set menus €22-27 (lunch), €22-24 (Sunday), à la carte €29-36. // M.S.
