Qingdao? It’s the name of a city in the Shandong province in eastern China, known all over the world for its beer… Tsingtao! But also for its cuisine, which this always-packed restaurant is a worthy advocate for! Amongst their specialties: homemade dumplings (poached, pan-fried, in soup, stuffed with beef, chicken, pork, cabbage, etc. €6.50 for a dozen); a spicy beef tripe salad with coriander (€7); gently seasoned baby octopus sautéed with crisp garlic shoots (€12.80); rich Sichuan-style stewed eggplant (€10.80) – whose oil you sponge up with homemade bao (€1); or even beef belly (€16.50). To drink, there’s chrysanthemum tea (€3.50), rosé from Provence (€12.90 a bottle) and, of course, Tsingtao beer (€3.80 for 330 ml). Menus €11 to €12.50 (lunch), mains from €6 to €18. // G.D.
