Adeline Grattard and her husband Chi Wah Chan have transformed their original Yam’tcha into a boutique/diner. This cocoon-like spot has plenty of wooden details (rafters, bar, communal tables, barstools) and a feel like nowhere else, the perfect setting for celebrating their major tea and steamed bites pairings. Start with the divine bao, those soft white buns with unusual fillings: Comté, onions and curry make for a comforting flavor combo; a delightful vegetable, smoked tofu and chili version; or a cheeky chocolate one. The day we went for lunch, we also dug into some incredible jiao zi (dumplings from northern China) stuffed with pork, translucent gao choi (garlicky chive and shrimp dumplings) with a vinegar-soy-spicy oil dipping sauce, and a heavenly zucchini and patty pan squash salad with a sesame and Sichuan pepper dressing. On the shelves, you’ll find exceptional powders and objects for steeping your tea leaves (tea pots, boxes, etc.). // J.G.
FEELING THIRSTY? There are pure teas prepared with the utmost care: iced oolong (€5), a tea of the day (this time, it was black tea aged for 10 years, €5) or laï’tcha, their famous sweet milk tea (€5). Otherwise, there’s Patrick Font juices (€6).
