Caroline, Amélie and Paul brought back an unforgettable souvenir from their trip across Malaysia: mamak food, otherwise known as the Indo-Chinese street food that’s typical of Kuala Lumpur. These relatively little-known flavors are now bubbling away at Boleh Lah (“anything is possible” in Malaysian), their very cool new spot with yellow and black barstools, a psychexotic mural and bright neon lights. There’s plenty to liven up French appetites here: nyonya kari laksa that packs a powerful umami punch – a smoking hot broth with wheat noodles, nyonya curry, an œuf parfait, shrimp and soybeans; a comforting beef rendang with beef stewed in coconut milk, lemongrass, galangal and turmeric; an incredible char siu – pork loin glazed in soy sauce, honey, ginger and five-spice powder, then grilled on the plancha; not to mention their famous roti – small flaky bread that’s grilled and served with either a dhal dipping sauce or a sweet caramelized sauce. It’s also worth mentioning that they serve a delightful Saturday brunch with extra-tender beef rendang bao buns, incredible hakka toast (French toast generously topped with ground pork marinated in soy sauce), chocolate-chili cake, etc. // G.V.

FEELING THIRSTY? There’s a Malaysian tarik teh (a sweet milk tea, €4), Tiger lager from Singapore (€4 for 330 ml) and cosmopolitan wines: an organic white Silex from Portugal (€5.50 a glass), a Cape Moby red from South Africa (€27 a bottle).

PRICE: Roti from €4 to €4.50, mains €10-14, desserts €4.50, brunch €19-25 (Saturday).
